Last year we promised Simon he could have a birthday party this year. Being the middle child isn't always easy and Simon has never had a party before! His preference was to have a laser-tag party, but since that option was not available where we currently reside, we threw him a Batman party at home. I was apprehensive about doing it, being so close to my due date and pretty uncomfortably pregnant. But Neal reassured me he would be here for it. So I took advantage of his offer and put him in charge of entertaining all the little bat-boys! Pinterest saved my life, I have to say! And I think Simon really enjoyed himself, as did the other kids, thanks to a super fun dad!!
We are so thankful for Simon in our family! He is enjoying 1st grade, and has really done well this year! He is reading, writing paragraphs, doing math and making lots of friends in school and in the neighborhood! With some of the challenges he faced as a toddler, we could not be more excited about how well acclimated he is in his classroom with little to no extra support. He is super energetic, full of personality, and also can be quite sensitive and affectionate. He loves all kinds of super heroes, especially Batman and most recently Power Rangers. Simon loves to ride his bike and has just discovered sports! He loves to play baseball with the neighborhood kids and is really getting into soccer! Happy Birthday Simon! We love you tons!
We celebrated in Simon's class with cupcakes and masks for everyone!
We celebrated at home the night of his actual birthday with a (not-so-delicious) birthday cookie cake from the grocery store. No one seemed to care. Simon was excited about his presents, of course!
The party members donned their capes and masks just before entering "the Batcave".
One of the highlights of the party was a dark tunnel "Batcave", Neal built out of cardboard boxes for the kids to crawl through, it exited through the bottom of the garage door. He timed each of them as they crawled through. Lucky for us, it turned out to be an extraordinarily beautiful day, so entertainment included relay races, a soccer game, a short nature hike followed by a werwolf chase back to the house. The kids were exhausted when they came in for pizza, cupcakes and a movie!
My neighbor Shae came over and helped me a ton!
