The Big Apple

June 15th, 2013

The weekend before the kids got out of school, I boarded a 5:30am train with my best friend Amy, bound for NYC!  We talked for months and months about going to New York City to see some shows and hang out and we finally planned it and did it!  It couldn't possibly have been more fun!  We really had a blast walking Times Square, seeing not one, not two, but THREE Broadway musicals in two short days!   Just the train ride there was super relaxing and enjoyable!  We stayed in the Crown Plaza, and had a room that overlooked Times Square.  This was my first time to NYC, so it was really fun to be right in the center of it all.  People who go there often or who live there probably avoid the touristy Times Square, but I really thought it was fun!  We saw Newsies first, and LOVED it!  You can't beat the talent or the big productions when you are right on site, in New York.  It blew me away and I wanted more.  Luckily Amy did too so we headed to the discount ticket office to see what would be next on our itinerary.  We ended up seeing Jane Lynch in Annie that evening (which was fabulous), and then the next day we saw Cinderella (also a treat!).  Sunday morning before Cinderella, we went to church at the Manhattan meetinghouse, which is also a temple if you go up another floor or two in a special elevator.  All weekend long in between the shows we shopped, ate some decent food here and there, took the Subway to Greenwich Village, and also spent a little time on 5th Avenue.  It was such a great girls getaway, and one that I will never forget with one of my favorite people of all times!  Thanks Amy for a fabulous weekend!  (Trying not to get choked up as I type this post, the new life in Alabama has caused an abrupt halt on my daily workout routine with Amy).
