Evacuation...to the Beach?!!

To add to our own craziness of moving in, home-improvement projects, school registration for 3 kids, 2 IEP transfers and getting my boys integrated into the Spec Ed system and set up, 3 different school open houses, and school supply shopping...

...we decided to book a little weekend vacation to Virginia Beach.

The same day we booked our trip, we got to experience our very first earthquake!! It lasted less than 30 seconds, and I am pretty sure not one thing fell off a shelf or counter, every picture in tact (all five we have hanging anyway).

Within an hour or two of the earthquake we learned a hurricane was heading our way, so of course we reluctantly canceled our beach vacation. Bummer!!
Hurricane Irene came on through our area early Sunday morning and knocked our power out, as well as our running water (since we have a water pump and are on Well water). Irritated by the annoying inconvenience of no flushing toilets, or showers, or running water to wash hands or brush our teeth, we started brainstorming for a plan to get out of town, since that was our original plan all along. We found out quickly that Ocean City, Maryland had opened up and had minimal damage from the hurricane. So we packed up and headed for Ocean City. As we were walking out the door, our power came back on, of course. But we kept walking and shut the door and locked it, and headed straight to the Beach!!

We loved Ocean City!! Found a little dive of a hotel right on the boardwalk. Had a blast just hanging out in the sand and on the boardwalk eating, walking, and playing at the fun carnival at the end of the boardwalk. Great place for families, and was super low key, because people had evacuated for the hurricane. So there was barely anyone there. My kind of vacation!!
