Neal, Lucy and I took a 7am flight bound for Northern Virginia. The night before, I got my other kids all setup at their pre-designated homes. We arrived in VA at 5pm and my friend Amy Bourne picked us up. We stayed with the Bournes, which was a treat for us! The next day we dropped Lucy off at my friend Katie Erb's house, who kindly agreed to keep Lucy until Saturday night. All those running the race met at the Bournes at 1pm and we were on our way! We arrived in Johnson City, Pennsylvania, around 4pm, hit the local Walmart and then headed over to the prerace dinner at 5pm. Then we headed to our lodge at the starting line....in the pouring rain. It was already very muggy and warm. After traditional pictures by the river, we finally settled and went to bed to try and get some rest. I was exhausted! Not a whole lot of sleep the days prior, and even less sleep for me that night. 5am start meant a 4:15 EASTERN wakeup time. And it began! This time around was much more grueling than last time. The biggest difference was we were not acclimated to the humidity and hot temps. Add in jetlag, as well as additional heat (about 10 degrees hotter than years prior), and it was the perfect storm for a not so good run for neither Neal or I. I felt sick my entire run, but made it the 19.3 miles. Neal suffered from the same heat sickness and called it quits at about mile 50. It was so fun to be there with our old friends. And they did spectacular! Some of the guys ran further than they ever have, a couple even finished the whole 70 miles. Loved every minute giggling with my super hardcore strong girlfriends for an entire day! So worth the trip to do something hard together! And to catch up with amazing friends who mean the world to us!
Forgot to mention our women's relay team took first place again!
Lucy was in good hands while we were gone! The Erbs dropped Lucy off Saturday evening, and Ashley and Aubrey Bourne had lots of fun with her!
Justin was well taken care of while we were in VA as well, clearly.
And so was Simon! He loved his girl time, and especially hangin with Aunt April! (No pictures of Noah, but he had a blast with his buddy Mason!)
Millie was at EFY all week at BYU. Kelli and Shaun and their kids met Millie for lunch one day while they were in Provo!
